Hello Veronika. Tell us more about you and your music career.Having moved from Filmmaking to Music Production and DJ-ing, how do you see the shift in your career?
Good morning and great to see you. Indeed I’m coming from film directing and producing background that had transformed into fashion photography on later stages.Being a European filmmaker and never being backed up by any film studios, I’m used to be a self-sufficient artist. However, I had never been a stranger to international recognition and my short film The Outsider had received multiple festival nominations including prestigious Cannes’ Film Festival Short Film corner award. As a result, artistic brand name Nikka Lorak is recognized both in UK and International creative scene.
Music had always been a part of my creative journey: I had been closely involved in writing score for my movies, directed numerous music videos and always appreciated musical score as one of the most influential components of a movie.Shift towards music production and performance (DJ-ing) had come naturally. I believe that technical perfection is a corner stone of artistic success and thus I have graduated from London Sounds Academy, followed by an extended curriculum in DJ Groove’s School.I quickly discovered that principles of filmmaking and storytelling apply to music production and performance. Both artistic genres invite audience on a journey that is both entertaining and educational.Im playing electronic music (techno and house), that I love because of a combination that includes structure, energy and depth. However, I also like intertwining elements of other genres in, especially the ethnical or period ones- it references listener to the whole scope of the particular culture or acts like time machine, sending one back to a particular era.
Similar to filmmaking I’m seeking inspiration in other genres of artistic expression, as well as in everyday observations. At the moment I’m deeply inspired by the electronic English band of the 90s, The Prodigy. I’m drawing inspiration both from their sound and visuals, mixing it with modern techno for a unique sound that is my own. Equally being fascinated by fashion creations of Balenciaga, I would think what “soundtrack” would suit its visuals.
My music career opens plenty of opportunities thats are essential to me. First of all, producing and playing music fills me with energy and inspiration. It also allows me to share my energy to the listeners, loud and strong. I believe that DJs are modern rock stars and I had always been one, music allows me to express my inner storm of emotions and in the same time it balances me out. Secondly, music for me is a doorway to diversity of artistic expressions. Through my music career Im aiming for collaborations with other creatives in fashion, filmmaking, performing arts and more. I strongly believe that artistic vision is a cross-platform phenomenon. And the last but not the least, music career and personal brand allows me to develop a charity I had always been dreaming about. It has education for less privileged children in its core and supports talented youngsters all over the globe. Right now Im founding my own music label that aims for charity and support as the largest part of its agenda.
Can you tell us about venues and musical events you have played at?
I have started my music career in London, UK. Been playing in such iconic venues as Ministry of Sound, Egg and Koko. These London venues host techno and house music, while Mykonos, which is another favourite destination of mine, sounds more like organic house and deep techno. Following the footsteps of inspiring Black coffee, Tale of Us and Who Made Who, I have performed in such renowned venues as Allemagou and Pacha to name a few. I even performed a private set on a helicopter pad of High Villa that is famous for its legendary parties.
Would you like to tell your audience any more information about you and your upcoming events and collaborations?
