Nico de Corato, or Abu Yasmin – as they call him in Dubai – will run a 200 Km ultramarathon alone, starting from Jabel Jais to the iconic Burj Al Arab in only 2 days, passing through the desert of Ras Al Khaimah, Mangroove Beach in Umm al Qwain and several other amazing spots in the UAE.
Supported by Dubai Sports Council, Nico will start his run on Sunday 29 January at 6.00am and his estimated arrival time at the Burj Al Arab is 4.00 pm on Monday 30 January. Nico is planning to reach his last check point in Kite Beach around 3 / 3.30 pm on Monday, happy to receive your support if you are around. After a small break he will run the last stretch till the Burj Al Arab.
Nico is a father to a girl named Adelaide Yasmin, and a boy named Raffaele William Hamdan and has been in the UAE for almost 20 years. Nico few days ago stated: “I have been preparing for months for this new sport challenge, and I’m so happy for the support I received from the people around me. I can say, even though it’s a ‘solo’ challenge this one is a community event for all the friends who’ve been involved in the realization of this sport event. For me, practicing sport is a way of living”.
It was not easy the preparation of this challenge, started more than one year ago. Many thing happened in the between; Nico’s mother passed away during this time. “I had to go back to Italy, and I had to take care of my father. I was with my wife, who was single parenting for almost eight weeks while simultaneously training.”
Athlete, visionary entrepreneur and video content creator Nico is an Italian resident in UAE since 2004, known as an ultra-marathoner, triathlete and fat biker who has several challenges to his credit. His most famous venture so far is a 140 Km solo run in the desert of Dubai in occasion of the National Day, to celebrate his love for the UAE.
Though long-distance running is not new to Nico, this is the first time he has so many parameters to follow. “This is the farthest I’ve ever run. The conditions and temperatures will be different from Jabel Jais (expected temperature at the starting line will be around 0° C degrees) to the desert (hottest peak can be few degrees less than 30° C degrees. Also it will be my first time running for a long distance over 2 days” Nico explained. His goal is to achieve an extreme sporting feat to entice more than just professional athletes to take up sport and show the beauty and variety of landscape of the UAE, his second home.
